Krav Maga Fundamentals
Krav Maga is the official hand-to-hand combat system of the Israeli Army. Once only taught to law enforcement agencies, Krav Maga is available for civilians. The training of Krav Maga focuses on teaching simple self-defense techniques which are specifically catered to reality based attack situations. The class will always create situational drilling of combatives, often pushing students to their threshold.
POW! in Chicago’s West Loop was the first to bring Krav Maga to Chicago in 2002. For over 10 years, POW! was the Official Krav Maga Worldwide (KMW) training center of Chicago. Today, POW’s program integrates KMW and Ryan Hoover’s (Fit to Fight) curriculum. Krav Maga can be learned by anyone at any age. Its training focuses on teaching simple self-defense techniques which are specifically catered to reality-based attack situations. Originally designed for the IDF (Israeli Defense Force), it succeeds above any other system at quickly teaching hand-to-hand combat skills. Krav Maga translates into contact combat. POW!’s Krav Maga self-defense program in the West Loop teaches relevant combatives and defenses for urban living.
Our system is an integration of many techniques from several different martial arts. The system focuses on building a decisive, explosive and aggressive response to being threatened. Today, we have continued to expand our program and now integrate Fit to Fight into the Krav Maga Fundamentals curriculum. The goal is to offer the most well-rounded and thoughtful application of reality based self-defense. In addition to being a pioneer in bringing Krav Maga to Chicago, POW! has also expanded it by offering the law enforcement application.
Krav Maga welcomes all ages and levels of fitness. We make you fit to fight back against an attacker. Our classes introduce various layers of stress, i.e high-intensity conditioning, threat recognition, multiple attackers and surveying skills. Students will use wraps, boxing gloves and shin guards (cups are suggested).
