  • KICK BOXING/MUAY THAI

POW offers several different types of Kickboxing and Muay Thai classes. Muay Thai as a style does require some form of controlled contact in order to progress.  However, our classes indicate whether it includes partner drills with controlled contact, sparring or just training.   If you would like to spar, or build your skills to spar, please let your instructor know because we can always partner you with other students that have the same goals and make for a more suitable training partner.  Almost all classes will require you to hold thai pads and sometimes shields and mitts.

There are 3 types of categories for muay thai and kickboxing.

    1.    Workouts: no contact, no sparring, all level, uses pads, uses partner drills, some classes use bags

    2.    Partner technique: which has controlled contact, needs shin guards but no live sparring, at least 5-10 classes

    3.    Intermediate: which is controlled contact and level specific sparring, at least 3 months of regularly training and gear

All classes with contact require shin guards and a cup.  Any type of sparring requires you to wear a mouthpiece, headgear, 12 oz sanctioned gloves, wraps, shin guards and groin protection.

  • WEIGHT LOSS
The students at POW are driven by the fitness benefits of mixed martial arts. Lucky for them, we provide a technical training experience without compromising the workout. The average student takes 2-3 classes per visit. This means they are taking back to back, 45 minute classes. This could be a boxing class and then muay thai kicking drills. Or perhaps they want to begin with technical boxing, followed by cardio-kickboxing intervals and finish with ringtime boxing / conditioning. Nonetheless, we train very hard and skillfully combine technical instruction into all of our training sessions. Even our technical classes provide you with anaerobic cross training. If you want to burn 1000 calories per day- come train like the average POW student.

We incorporate many conditioning drills including calisthenics, sports drills and body weight exercises. Sparring is an optional component to this class and is left up to the parents to decide. We offer class on Saturdays at 10:00am to 10:45am with Katalin or Said. It is $110 for 8 classes or $90.00 for 5 classes.

One of POW's goals with young people is to teach the importance of an active life.  We put each student on a structured fitness program that has built-in fitness goals.  Inorder for a student to advance they must fullfill their fitness requirements.  This is quite unique to POW's facility.  Considering that most high school no longer require physical education, it is critical that young people are involved in regular activity.  POW's classes are perfect for building confidence, losing weight, building strength, learning self-discipline, keeping healthy, becoming flexible, relieveing stress and most importantly learning how to defend yourself!
